話說左宗棠很喜歡下圍棋，
更是箇中高手，
其屬僚皆非他的對手。

有一次左宗棠微服出巡，
見一茅舍高掛著「天下第一棋手」的匾額，
左宗棠不服，入內與茅舍主人連弈三盤。

主人三盤皆輸，左宗棠得意的笑道：
「你可以將此匾額卸下了吧！」
話一說完便興高采烈的走了。

不久之後，
左宗棠班師回朝，路過此地，
又好奇的來到這間茅舍，
赫見「天下第一棋手」之匾額仍未卸下，
於是再次入內與主人對奕三盤。
但其結果卻是左宗棠連輸三盤。
左宗棠甚感訝異，問茅舍主人何故？

主人答：「上回，您有任務在身，
要率兵打仗，我豈能挫您的銳氣，
  而今，您已凱旋歸來，
我當然全力以赴，當仁不讓了！」


世間真正的高手，
是能勝而不一定要勝，有讓人的胸襟，
而能贏卻不一定要贏，有柔善的慈心，
生活中又何嘗不是如此？
